|
My heated birdbath freezes up when we get strong winds and cold temperatures so I got my mind to thinking and last night I covered it with a new metal garbage can cover and it was perfect this morning...no ice to chip out at all. So tonight I will dump my birdbath if it doesn't freeze up during the day and add a little hot water and cover it. Our area is really windy and in the open..... Colder temperatures are coming and -25 windchill is expected so that will be the real test..

The bird bath idea has been working great. Even during the night when I covered it and it got down to -45 with the windchill and I think the real temp was -21. I am having problems with it freezing up during the day today because it is so bitter cold with the wind chill and it is not suppose to warm up until this weekend...I think most bird baths are not suppose to stay open in that cold of weather. I am in the open so much here until the shrubs ,etc. grow...So in order to have some water for the birds I will add warm water...
