So I have looked everywhere and found out that I can grow both bush and pole beans in pots. They always say the same the bigger the pot the better. I was wandering can I get by in a 1 gal or how big exactly of a pot do I need?

I planted bush beans in a 2 gallon kitty litter bucket last year. I used soil from my back yard that was thick with clay. You can see how they did in this picture.
I can only imagine how they would have done if I had planted them in proper potting soil. I got about 2 big handfuls of beans from the plants. I think I am going to get a whole lot more this year in potting soil.

Thank you that helps out a lot. Good thing I have a cat so now I can use her litter bucket when I do my transfer. And that site was very helpful as well!

I planted my green beans in tires last summer..only about 5 inches of dirt...worked just fine!

I went to a supermarket and asked them if they had any of their flower buckets that they did not use and they gave me lots of them and my beans grew fine in them, they are only about the normal size of a kitchen bucket. :

Beans have a fairly shallow root system, I grow them in 24", and 36", plastic flower boxes with great success. For pole beans, I have a round planter about 8" deep x 36" wide that I put a concrete mesh wire cage around (that's 5 feet high) and they love it! Cage lets them climb and makes for easier picking when the time comes, can easily be removed in spring to prework soil before planting. Just a few ideas to think about..

Well that is good to know. I have about 8 bush beans just starting to poke up and in a month or so I will try some pole beans. It's hot here in Florida that is why I can start so early. Not sure if anything will turn out or not.
