Your Favourite Computer Software / Applications / Programs

This may be a little off subject, but thought it may be good to share here. I recently attended a workshop on Web 2.0 tools. For those of you who don't know what that means, as I didn't before the workshop (!), here's the definition: aim to enhance creativity, communications, secure information sharing, collaboration and functionality on the web

Here were a few of my favorite suggestions that some of you may appreciate too (some may be best in work situations):

Twitter...http://twitter.com/a service for friends, family, and co–workers to communicate and stay connected through the exchange of quick, frequent answers; a good way to update staff on ongoing projects; like instant messaging; can receive messages on your phone or have it scroll across the top of your page; President Obama is using it to keep his staff informed

Scriblink...http://www.scriblink.com/an online whiteboard where you can collaborate with colleagues around the world

Doodle....http://www.doodle.com/main.htmleasy online scheduler helps scheduling meetings and other appointments, free and requires no registration. Simply set up a poll of dates, forward the link to the participants for them to respond, and follow the results of the poll to determine the best date/place/time of your meeting.

Bloglines...http://www.bloglines.com/choose the content you want to be updated on (gardening, etc.) and subscribe to the ones you're interested in, Bloglines will keep you updated so you don't have to go from site to site

Slydial...http://www.slydial.com/ communicate directly into someone's voicemail, when you want to leave someone a message but you don't have the time to talk to them

Oh boy - I spend almost all day on this thing called a PC. Smile

Literally. Since I work at home and my work and play PC are the same (because you know, costs and all)..man. My butt hurts some days! LOL

I just downloaded a free HTML editor that does a great job and is pretty close to the Macromedia Dreamweaver program. www.trellian.net

I actually use Opera for a browser, but sometimes Firefox works better on certain websites. Very rarely I need to use IE, but I shudder when that happens. Smile

Opera has tabbed browsing, too.

Twitter - man. Smile

I have to be careful with my social media exposure. I can spend all day chatting w/ people! That's why I never start up my Trillian program (not to be confused w/ above) that runs all the IM programs in one. No need to sign-on to every one seperately! But, I have to use it on Fridays/at night. Or - zip! There went the day!
I have a Livejournal account, and I could spend all day bouncing back/forth between my work and personal Yahoo mailboxes.

I ditto someone above on the accounting package being awesome, but I happen to use Quickbooks. I have a business, so that makes sense. I also have a great program for that, but it's specific to running a company so probably not useful to anyone here. www.connectwise.com
