We're moving into our first home in a couple months, and I couldn't be more excited...It is a classic Milwaukee bungalow, and the 2nd floor will be our master bedroom. It is currently drywalled and has electricity, but is otherwise unfinished. Eventually I'd like to have carpet up there, but will not be able to afford it for awhile...the floor is currently painted gray. It is pine, so I have no plans to refinish it. My question is, what would be a good color to paint the floor, knowing that I plan to have a very pale silver blue on the sloped ceiling walls with a deep red walls in the dormer and only other full wall? Our headboard and dressers are a deep reddish brown. Go with the reddish brown to tie the room together? Or something lighter?
No definetly not a reddish brown on the floor. I think that would be too much. I would probably go with a lighter grey. Do your walls have any grey to them or are they more greenish-greyish-blue? Are you going to keep the walls a silvery blue? Does the furniture and accent wall match? After asking all these questions, I have another. If you are going to carpet and the floors are in good condition (paint wise), why not leave them alone? And save yourself a paint job!

The accent walls are going to be a wine red, the sloped celing will be a barely-there blue-grey (aptly named "evening shadow")...currently the floor is a not-well-painted battleship grey, which I just can't bear to look at for any length of time...we might not be able to carpet for a couple years. It currently looks like a color for an exterior of a house, not my bedroom floor. After pouring over paint samples this weekend, I'm leaning toward a milk chocolate brown, which contrasts with the deep red and pale blue-grey, and which I think will effectively tie in our reddish-brown bedroom furniture and natural decor. Painting the floor? Congrats on your first home! Your bedroom sounds like a great project...how about painting the floor in strips or some sort of patterned stencil...this way you can tie in your accent colors by using more than one color..being able to pull in the browns and blues without making the room too small or dark. Be sure to download photo's when you are finished..I'd love to see the finished product.
I had very distressed wood floors and painted them. I have an accent wall of brown, and the others are more adobe colored. I went with the same color as the trim - white. It really lightened up the room and I love the crispness of it. Pick your favorite chose and go for it. Paint can always be changed fairly easily. If my room wasn't so small I would have gone for a decorative painted border. Am saving that idea for the stairway up at the family cabin.
