|
I have black leather couches (won't post a pic since its your regular black leather couches).
I am looking for a coffee and end tables set. I have found a coffee table I'm in love with - it has drawers for storage, chrome, glass top. But its a dark espresso. I like the idea of bringing some warmth with wood into my contemporary design. But not sure the espresso table and black couches will go (I am not worried about it being too dark). Help?

I think it depends on the colour of your carpet and accesories if your carpet and curtains are light coloured as in that photo I am sure it would look good, I certainly like the table I think if your carpet and curtains were dark also it might be a little bit too much but it is your house and your money so do what you want to do.

My main concern was do the colors of dark espresso and black go together?

The shade of the wood "expresso" looks like its on the darkish side of brown so MAY not be THAT noticeable. Computer/Printed images tend to look darker then the real thing though, I think. With the sofa being a definite black, it IS abit of a quandary...I can't help but recall that a gentleman should never wear black trousers with brown shoes LOL but then again it was also once said "Blue and Green should never be seen unless theres a colour in between" and thats been shot to hell by many top designers!
So I'll say this for what its worth ~ confidence and your personality is very much part of the equation here too. As is ~ how much do you really love the coffee table???
Perhaps if you could juxtapose the black and dark brown colours by adding 1 or 2 items which also include these 2 shades like frex: A black vase with a dk brn wood trim or a black picture frame/photo album/ coffee table book/chair/cushion with a dk brown mount or picture; dk brn ribbon or again...wood trim; book jacket with LOTS of dark brn and black content; dk brn wood chair with a black velvet or silk fabric seat; black cusion with a dark brown frill or wood buttons?
This might make it look more like it was intentional! The difference in hue tween the 2 is also not GLARINGLY obvious so you might be able to get away with it by choosing the colours of the rug with more care then you would have normally, so as to downplay the difference.
If you wanted warmth and miss that I'd say its a nice coffee table but there are LOADS of others out there to choose from. If You're just not sure I'd say the same thing again.
Make another little search......perhaps come away from this dilemma for a while. Maybe think about another part of the room to dress for now, THEN return to the sofa/table and see how you feel about it then.
If you notice little things like a small colour mismatch chances are it will REALLY bug you even more once you've gone and bought the coffee table. If its just the warmth of honeyed wood you're after (can't recall the query too clearly anymore LOL) you could create soft warmth other ways.............or not.
Let us know what you finally decided
Good Luck
Tori

I love it too.
Especially because it has drawers and still manages to look modern and really nice. The matching end tables - each has 2 drawers as well.
Hopefully it'll help me control the clutter
