Do y'all know if this little guy is hurting or helping my ferns? I have seen him or others like him every year for about 4 years, but he doesn't seem to be hurting anything.

Toads are a wonderful pest control system. They feast on the slugs, grubs and insects that are the bane of gardeners.
They don't eat plants.

They don't dig anything up either FF. I encourage them to stay as they are a gardeners friend without doubt.

Yea, I like having them around and watching them navigate through my fern forest. I just wanted to be sure they weren't harming anything other then whatever might eat my plants.

Does one usually introduce it to the garden? I guess for me it is the case as they surely will not be jumping 4 levels high? Do they leave any smelly or hard to get rid of poo-poo? Sorry to be asking silly questions but living in the city is not so close to nature yet we love every bit of it.

Oh what a wonderful toad! What I would not do to have a few in my yard. Mine have all gone away and have not seen them in a few years now. The few we had would sometimes take a dip in the dogs' water dish, he would leave a few "surprises" behind.
You have a great camera FF22, nice close-ups, I noticed that also with the bug shots you posted.

The toads in my garden just kind of moved in. From what I've noticed, they don't leave anything smelly or any poo that doesn't quickly get turned into fertilizer. Thanks cuatro-gatos about the pictures. My camera broke  so unfortunately I wont be able to post any "new" pictures until I get a new one. I think you may have me confused with someone else with the bug pics.

What a handsome fellow! I would love more of them big boys in my garden to eat the darn slugs that like my lupins and delphiniums.
