|
A sad day for us yesterday, we had to have our dear little Penny put to sleep to save her from further suffering. She was 17 years old and has had a lovely life with us. Unfortunately her passing means that our remaining Flatcoated Retriever, Busby, is now on his own. He absolutely loved her.
Here is a photo of Penny in her prime.

It's so hard making that last trip to the vets isn't it? Even when we know it's exactly the right thing to do and the right time to do it. Poor Busby is going to be lost without his little companion but I know he'll get all the love and attention he needs from his humans.
RIP Penny.

I am so very sorry for your loss losing a best friend is such an awful time, I hope that you soon feel brighter and can remember all the fun you had with her. and I hope that Busby adjusts well, My mom lost her old boy skippy ( a grey marl border collie) in january and we were so so upset and worried for her other dog Rob but he has done great and actually seems more relaxed and content he had never been without other animals but is doing great. they surprise us sometimes with the adaptability. My thought are with you at this sad time as I am sure everyone else on the stew will be thinking of you also.

Aww. What a beautiful girl she was. I'm so sorry. It's never an easy thing to do but when they are suffering, it's the best thing. I hope you and Busby are OK soon. After 17 years, she will be so missed. What would we do without our furry companions...

My condolences for Penny. Our pets do have such an important place in our lives. You can comfort yourself with the memories of the love she gave you and vice versa.

Oh, Gardengirl, so sorry for your loss. I know doing what has to be done for their sake is very hard. Just remember the fun and loving times with her and give Busby lots of hugs too.

My heart goes out to you. It is so so very sad when one has to take that last trip to the vet. Just remember the good times she afforded all of you and vice versa.

So very sorry for the loss of your beloved pet Penny.
I'm getting misty right now just thinking of your pain and remembering all of my little dears that are on the other side of the rainbow.
Hope you all bounce back soon.

Thank you so much for your nice messages. They really do help even though I must admit to shedding a tear when reading them. Busby has been sniffing around all the places where Penny used to lie. I think he is definitely missing her.

I'm so sorry for you, GG. It's so hard to make the decision, but it's ours to make unfortunately. You did well, please remember that. *big hugs*
