Hi there Crazy Orchid Lady. Lovely to have you here with us at GardenStew. Mr. Green

Now, as you may have gathered, some of us are slightly mad, but only some. I, for instance, am totally and completely sane!!!

Hope you enjoy our forums as much as we all do. Very Happy

Hullo, Crazy Orchid Lady! I like that name too!

There once was a Lady so Crazing,
Not for daffodil, roses or daisies -
No, she longed for a flower
Of beaut'ous staying power -
And 'twas Orchids that made her amazing!

Very Happy

Thank you Bugs! Its good to be here. I'm not really tooo crazy Laughing I've had plants (and animals for that matter) for as long as I can remember but just recently felt knoweledgeable enough to start with orchids - I always thought they were hard, fooled me. Started with one...then it grew to 2.... then within a matter of a month it was 10, and now up to 25 (oops) Razz . Oh yeah, I added those to the 50 other indoor plants (no 2 of the same species) in my little 750 sq ft. home.

On top of it, I have an outside garden full of roses, mint, garlic, ginger and other herbs, lilacs, poppies and anything else I can find that's interesting to plant in the small place that I have.

I live in Colorado and the growing season here is rather short for outdoors stuff - problem solved with building an indoor growing area in my garage (its not for cars anyway, is it?). My friends thing I'm nuts but those that know me just expect it from me. Smile

Enough of my ramblings, it great to be here.

I only have one orchid - so far. My daughter gave it to me on Mothers Day. I love it and when I go over to Holland for my holiday again this year I'll be picking up a few more. They are 1/3 of the price over there that they are here in Scotland so that means I can buy three times as many!!!! Rolling Eyes The flowers last for ages and they're so beautiful. I always thought they were very delicate plants that needed a lot of care but they are actually very easy to look after. I'd love to see piccies of yours. Mr. Green

Welcome!

Primsong, you made me cry! How beautiful, how very special. May I please quote you in my blog?

Eileen and all, I promise to post photos in my blog shortly, I'm at work when I do this so I have to work on it "in between things".

Eileen - there is a wonderful history of orchids at http://www.maljonicsdreams.com/orchids/orchid_history.htm I'm looking forward to seeing what you find on your holiday, I'm very excited for you. I caution you, they are an addiction and there isn't much you can do for the problem Laughing

Welcome Crazy Lady....errr, sorry, I mean Crazy Orchid Lady. Very Happy

In what part of Colorado do you live? I lived in Evergreen for one wonderful year about 35 years ago and in Denver one horrid year 36 years ago.

Toni,
I'm in Dacono - 35 years ago, as I remember correctly, Dacono probably had 2 houses and was considered out in the middle of nowhere Very Happy For that matter, it still is considered the boodocks and I like it that way. Its about 25 miles due north of Denver - you might remember Brighton, I'm about 15 miles northwest of there.

Sorry to learn you had a horrible experience here - I'm not much for the city (can't handle the people, grrrr). Where are you now?

Living in Denver per se wasn't the horrid part....that was the year of the beginning of the end of my marriage . Living in Evergreen was wonderful, he worked nights and I worked days....but it didn't help.

I am back home in Texas, Carrollton to be exact for almost 30 years now. Have only been back to Colorado once about 25 years ago.

Sorry to hear about the end - hope I didn't bring up any bad memories. Sounds like you're loving Texas though. I don't blame you for not coming back - I wouldn't have either if my father hadn't gotten ill and after he passed, well - my mom is still here.

So.... here I stay, trying to bloom wherever and whenever I can.
