It certainly looks like asparagus to me PGM. However, I'd wait awhile until someone with more knowledge comes along and ID's it for you.

It looks like asparagus to me, too. The stalks come up in spring. Is there more of it around? Usually if there is one, there is more around somewhere because it is usually planted in groups or rows. dooley

Thanks for the confirmation.
Neither of them remembers ever planting it, but then, they don't remember whose garden it is most of the time. They just enjoy the garden in the hear and now, which is perhaps what we all should do more of.
