This butterfly?/moth? came to visit me at work today. I have never seen one like this in Newfoundland before, I joined the forum just to find out what it is!

I'm pretty sure your butterfly is a Camberwell Beauty(Nymphalis antiopa.) In North American it is known as the Mourning Cloak. This butterfly is widespead in the northern hemisphere.
