Our lawn was a gravel pit many years ago. When we built our house we had a lot of black dirt put on the front yard and it is doing pretty well. The remaining black dirt was spread evenly across the back yard and wasn't enough to cover all the rocks and sand. I bought the original seed from a local seed company and used their tractor to seed it.

The backyard is now sparse grass with lots of rocks. As much as I would love to haul in a 100 cubic yards of dirt to build it up I can't afford that at this time.

Any recommendation on what I can do a little at a time to try to turn this into a real lawn? The area is about 75ft by 125 ft. Thanks.
