|
Hi. I've got a south facing kitchen. The outside wall is sunny and hot in the summer. Any ideas how I could create one of those Wall Gardens, like the ones in Paris, with all the plants hanging down and a pump to circulate the water? something like, 4 foot wide and up! thanks

You need to grow the appropriate plants - ivy is best for growing on the wall, very easy to attach it and can't stop it
A trellis vine can also help, and you'll have grapes to eat.

I was blown away by the Patrick Blanc gardens but yeah, that'd be pretty involved.
The Smith and Hawkins version or something like it looks interesting. I wonder why they didn't post a planted version of it... how heavy it would be planted and watered... and whether I could keep it sufficiently watered in the summer heat. Think it would be a really pretty backdrop for a patio area or on a fence....
What do you think?

I think it would be great to have something like a vertical living wall pew..... loads of plants, keeping the kitchen wall warm, keeping it cool, looking great all the year. Wish I could afford it!

It does look like the perfect spot.
Maybe for a alternative, you could do something like an espaliered tree?
Maybe you could grow a trailing vine that you like in a half barrel and help it to trail up and across the window with a few supports.
It looks like your house is stucco. If so, from my experience, I wouldn't plant anything that will attach to the wall with the little grippers -- I had ivy at one time and it took forever to get rid of it and the grippers did a lot of damage to my stucco. Just a thought.
