I bought a special rhododendron today -- I had to order it from a grower in New Jersey because I couldn't find one within a short drive (or a longer drive for that matter!) of here.

It's my first ever rhododendron so I'm a bit nervous about getting it planted right -- I'll surely be asking for advice when it arrives.

It's called a Mary Fleming rhododendron. I have a spot where I thought a rhodi would be happy so I was researching them online and found this one. It's a cute dwarf with creamy pink blooms. I HAD to get it because Mary Fleming was my mom's maiden name! It will go in the bed that I made in her honor after she died. She had started it and I expanded the size and added to it.

It will be here around the end of May.

I just had to put the picture of it here.I hope you don't mind.It is a beautiful bloom.I thought the site might help you.
I think that is a great memorial to your mom.I need to try to make a memory bed for my mom and dad.My dad planted the wisteria so you can bet I wont plant that.:)but he did love Roses and Rose of Sharon.

That is beautiful, DB. Your mom will love it. How sweet it is to be able to have a special 'bed of honor' for loved ones. I can't wait to see it planted when you get it.

Aww, thanks you guys! I think my mom would like to too, KG. Glenda, that was nice of you to find that site and I'll check it out. Isn't it a pretty rhodi?

I talked to the guy at the grower for a while with lots of questions for him. He was so nice. He said they put up a vid on Youtube showing exactly how to plant new rhodis so I'm sure between that and all you guys, I'll feel quite confident!

Congratulations on your lovely, new Rhododendron. It's very pretty. Very Happy I hope it will grow well for you. It had better, with all the special care it's getting already.

I think you were meant to have that particular rhododendron Daisy. Isn't it fantastic that it has your mums name? Very Happy I hope you'll show us photographs of it when it arrives and when it flowers for you. Stew Face 2

That is very pretty, and i like that its a dwarf too. I think it will look good no matter where you put, just because of the meaning behind it. Very special indeed!
