It could be Palm Bamboo - Sasa palmata f. nebulosa. It's hard to tell though as there are no visible leaves.

How long have you had it? Maybe it just hasn't leafed out yet. Is it growing in water or soil?

i got it a few months ago and the old growth from last year looks just like what is there now..the newer greener spikes. I have no idea what to expect of it...height, flower, invasiveness...

If it is a Bamboo, leave it in a pot until you can identify which variety. Some clump and some spread like wildfire so a pot will keep it in bounds until you know for sure. Full sun but maybe some afternoon shade it is really hot. Keep it watered but not soggy, just don't let it get dried out completely between waterings. In a pot will also help you determine it's preferred growing conditions...if it is in the ground in the wrong place you can't move it as easily as when it's in a pot.

Are you sure it isn't a horsetail? Looks MUCH more like an early shoot of horsetail than a bamboo, in my opinion.

I don't know about that variety of horsetail, but the sort I get here on my allotment is a thug, so if I were growing it as an ornamental, I might be tempted to grow it in a pot or planter.

I knew it started with horse but couldn't remember the rest of it. It grew by my compost one year. I pulled it all out. dooley
