I have several young lilac bushes in my yard. For some reason this year two of them didn't bud or bloom Sad One is a short, white bush, about 5 years old and the other is a young, dark purple one about 4 years old. Both of these have bloomed in the past. Why would they clam up now? I haven't pruned them because they are still young and small and I want them to grow HUGE. Also, is there a magic nutrient that I can feed them all to encourage blooming next year?

Thanks,
Deanna
Very Happy

Helpful to me too! I have three lilacs that have gotten too tall/big so I've been working on shaping them up for the past couple of years. This gave me some good tips and confirmed some of what I've been doing. Thanks!

I know lilacs need full sun (at least 4 hours a day, but more is better) and good drainage. They bloom on new wood, and after blooming you should prune off to the ground anything that's bigger than your little finger. Mine are in full bloom now and I'm enjoying every minute of it!

Thanks Eileen! I liked the video. I have written down "slow release fertilizer and lime" Razz
