Just in case any of you have problems with your garden potted plants and cats that use them as toilets, I have tried so many different ways to deter them. None have succeeded. Sprays dont work, gel dosent work, and I dont want to put any poisons down. If you get some garden canes, and snap them into 10 inch rods, then stick them into a protective barrier in the pot poking outwards from the base of the plant,it stops the cats getting in. Presto. No cat poo in your pot. I have lost many a plant before I tried this. Hope it works for you. Happy safe gardening.

The vet told me to put pokey pinecones around my plants too!

Spiky things like canes or pointy pine cones sound like good ideas.
Cats also hate citrus. Lemon or orange peels might help deter cats. Not sure if it would work on really determined cats, especially once they start using an area as their litter box. However, in conjunction with spiky things it could help.

Hi. I have tried citrus peel and cloves of garlic none of which worked. The good thing about the garlic was that it grew and I now have home grown garlic in my pots

I used pokey things too sticking up, I did it around my garden plants when the deer wanted to eat them and it helped. I didn't put them so they would poke there eyes, I laid them lower so they just criss crossed over the plants..
I have put wire in the container pots so they couldn't dig in it.(on top) I cut a hole in the wire big enough for the plant and some growth and then planted it through the holes. or you could plant it first and then cut the wire to go around it. It helped when chipmunks wanted to bury nuts too.
