Hello all, Does anyone know the ID of this tree? It has the most wonderful smelling little blossoms, perfumes the whole block near my school. I would love to have one, the fragrance is so sweet.

It has two different kinds of leaves -- rounded ones and long thin ones. The stem with very fragrant flowers grows straight out of the center of the long thin leaves. I hope you can see it. It is a large tree and the bark is rough.

Thanks, guys.

Looks like a linden tree, Tilia cordata. The flowers are used in teas to relieve coughs, cold and flu.

Yes, that is exactly what it is. Thank you Droopy. This type of tree lined our street when I lived in Illinois and smelled so pretty. Then I noticed one next to my school yesterday. There is a big choke cherry tree out back that we need to get taken down... maybe this would be a nice replacement for the fragrant blossoms and pretty bark.

I discovered those quite by accident too! I literally followed my nose to find a row of them near work. I hope to add one to my yard soon Smile
