Hi,
Has anyone had experience with allergies to small rodents? My husband is allergic to mice (has trouble if we stay in a cabin that has a mouse problem) and recently we had 2 pet rats living in the house but he was terribly allergic to them. They were large males and very smelly. Has anyone with allergies like this been around a hamster? One small dwarf hamster compared to 2 large rats...I am just curious. I am a rodent fanatic and my son really would like to have a small pet. Any thoughts would be great.

Have you considered a furless rat? They aren't the most beautiful of creatures, but Rats are so much smarter than other pet rodents that I would rather have a pet without fur than a duller one.

We used to have hamsters when the kids were young but no allergies in this house. Are you sure it was the rats and not the bedding? Sometimes that cedar shavings can smell pretty strong if you are too close to it. Good luck..
