Here is a garden stone that I made and painted. I used plaster of paris, and a styrofoam plate as the mold. I used various fresh leaves for the leaf patterns, and inserted colored glass pieces. I used indoor/outdoor craft paint to paint the leaves and the background. Sprayed with glossy sealer. The fresh leaves will just peel off of the plaster of paris after it has set and leave a beautiful pattern behind to paint.

What a lovely piece of artwork Tammy. Is this the first garden stone you have made? If not may we see some more please? :-D
Do you have any other 'crafty' hobbies that you enjoy? I, myself, love to make greetings cards.

Welcome to our forums from West Lothian in Scotland.

Do you do this as a craft? Its a really good idea to make hmm, stepping stones or any number of crafts using plaster of paris. Do the leaves peel quit easily from the plaster? Very nicely done.

That is the first garden stone that I have made. Hope to make another while on vacation in July. Another crafty hobby I like is hand painting wooden birdhouses. I have given them as gifts to family members but I don't have any pics. I also like watercolor pencil-which is ideal for making cards. A newly started project is hand painting a metal bucket in a nautical theme to use as a planter for the deck. My 3 yr. old granddaughter helped me with the initial coat of white paint and we had so much fun! :smt024

Yes, the leaves will peel easily if you don't push them too deeply into the plaster. The fresh leaves have some kind of residue which keeps them from sticking.

Looks great. I bought a concrete leaf (they used one from a rhubarb plant) and am using it as a bird bath.
