I am trying to decorate my living room. Right now the furniture that I have is black end tables and a black futon that looks a lot like this

I also have a dark green chenille blanket throw that is this color [IMG]

I also have the following wall art:

The walls and carpet are a cream color. I would like to use blue as one of the accent colors (i.e. with throw pillows or wall decor or something like that). I also would really like the room to be homey with bright colors, but I am terrible at matching colors and decorating. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what color scheme would go well together with the furniture I have right now?

The following ideas are based on the blue background in your art being in the same family as paint color SW6955 Impromptu.

My first thought is, the deep green throw is too dark. Although your sofa is black, that forest green has "so much" black in it that it's weighing the room down.

Replacing it with a vibrant green (like Sherwin Williams Citronella SW6915), will begin to bring the magic back! :setc_005: Fold it neatly and hang it across the back of one side on the sofa. Place two pillows on the opposite side.

Place a coffee table in front of it with an asymmetrical shaped glass top and a natural wood base. Resist the urge to go with the expected rectangular or round table. Pick up the darker brown tones in the limbs of your artwork for the base. Have fun during the search! The result will be so worth it.

Place two, all white chairs on opposites sides to create a conversation area. Legs can be hidden, chrome or wood tone. (Okay, if white scares you, replace it with a leaf green like SW6409 Edgy Gold)
But the white would be cool.

Place two lamps with stout white ceramic or glass bases on the end tables. The round (drum) lamp shades, can be a cork color or off white linen.

I like SW6386 Napery as a wall color. Although it may be too similar to the cream you have. If so, try SW6399 Chamomile. It's a great color that I've used before.

Bring in the following colors through a combination of pattens in more art work and 2 pillows for the sofa and 2 for the chairs: light blue, dark blue, Edgy Gold, apricot, white and orange. Use bold, large graphic patterns in the pillows. AND use large pillows 28". That will add to the comfy feeling.

Hope that's a start for you. Have fun!
