I went out to water my garden, etc. with miracle gro this morning and when I wanted to change hoses the end broke and one part is stuck on the miracle gro container. Went to the hardware to get a part so we could go around it or over it or through it or some such thing. The hardware was out of parts. Came home, started looking for ant hills to spray. I was turning over rocks, finding larva and ants. I picked up a piece of desert driftwood and there was a snake under it. I put the wood down and went and got DR. He didn't know what it was either. I was just going to leave it if it was harmless. I called Dan and told him I had a snake for his snake show at the library. He came home and looked at it and said it was a rattlesnake. OOPS!!! I found him a long stick and a container and he pushed it into the container and took it away. It wasn't a big snake. Dan said it was a baby. Baby or not I did not want it in my yard. Dan was going to take it back to the library and put it in the refrigerator. When it cools down he was going to transfer it to a clear gallon jar so he could look at it. He wants to look it up to see what kind it is. On his way home, he is going to take it out past the dump where it's less populated and let it go on its way somewhere else. Now, do I look under anymore rocks and pieces of driftwood for anthills. Dooley

A rattlesnake OMG I'm guessing that it didn't 'rattle' or else that would have scared the life out of you.
Why does Dan have to put it in a refrigerator? I'm confused

Snakes don't move when they are cold. Since it was cool under the wood it didn't rattle at me. When Dan moved it it woke it up. So to move it from the plastic container with lid to the clear glass jar so he could look at it he had to cool it down again so it wouldn't move too fast and get away.
Dan came at lunch time and said it is a Hopi Rattler and isn't generally seen this far south. It's not really a baby since they don't get very big. It's about two years old going by the rattles on it. It has four buttons or rattles. Later today it will be moved out away from town and let go. Dooley

Wow you had a ruff day. I don't like snakes I know they have there purpose in life just like all animals but they give me the bigibis LOL. I hope you have a better one tomorrow.

I hate snakes!!! They scare the pants off of me!! LOL! John's parents have alot of rattlesnakes in their area. They are huge, as big around as a grown man's upper arm and like 6-8 feet long!! I don't move anything out in their yard!!

Yikes!
All I have are little ribbon grass snakes that like to hide among the tall grass. You can catch them and play with them, and they eat bugs, so we like them. I certainly wouldn't care to find something like *that* in my yard!

All we get are grass snakes, slow worms and very occassionlly, an adder. The adder is the only poisonous one, but it is quite hard to find any. However, on our allotment they sunbathe on the corregated metal!

We don't generally see snakes in populated places. I haven't seen one since we moved here. The man across the street said he killed one yesterday. This one was a small one and we thought it was a baby. Dan said it was a Hopi Rattler and they are just small. I hope we don't have any more, too. Dooley
