I am wondering if Mock Orange bushes like to be pruned and if so, what time of year is best to do this? We have one that has a lot of woody dead material in it that I would like to get out.

I have a Minnesota Snowflake too. I usually prune it after it is done blooming.

These are tough shrubs and can survive pruning any time, but yes, best to prune after blooming. Dead twigs and branches can be removed at any time. It should not affect the bloom of your shrub next year, but may influence its shape next year as new growth can fill in the spaces from which you remove the dead.
