Hi Everyone,
I'm new here & just recently became interested in Butterflies. I was hoping someone could help me come up with an ID for the attached Skipper picture. It was taken last summer in NW New Jersey. Thanks in advance for the help.

Hi, I am fairly new to butterflies myself but this looks likely to be a Silver Spotted Skipper. I looked it up in a book. Some image postings on the web (not this site) for Silver Spotted skipper are incorrect. It likes chalk downland. The female layers her eggs on the grass known as Sheeps Fescue. I don't expect you to have noticed if there was any of that grass where you were but that would be interesting.

Mik has ID'd your butterfly correctly for you. I just wanted to add that your photograph shows that it's the female Silver Spotted Skipper.

Thanks a lot folks, really appreciate it! Skippers seem to be pretty tough.
