Hello everybody,

First of all, sorry for my english, hope you understand me.

We are an elderly couple. We moved this small flat a while ago and did not bring here most of our old furniture.(except the dining table) I uploaded the pics of the room to photobucket.;

The room is very small (4,5 x 3,5 metre) but we have to use it both living and dining, and though we are two at home, we need about six seats. This room doesn't get direct sunlight. The floor colour is beige and the walls are light beige, we can do nothing about them now.

I want to buy six chairs, two sofa, coffee table and a bookcase.

I liked a sofa from ikea (price is good but there is only dark brown colour) Here it is;

I think to buy two and put it in the like this;

I am very bad about interior decorating. Could you please help me.

- Putting two sofas and a big table in this room, is a good idea? Any other placing way?
- I want to change the curtains, what do you suggest me (colour, length...)

Thank you all.

My opinion is that the room is too small for six chairs, two sofas, a coffee table and a bookcase..

To get 6 seats you wouldn't need to buy 6 chairs. Buy 4 dining chairs for the dining table, put two of them at the table for the two of you to use daily. The other two, put one on each side of the window, when they need to be used they can be pulled out of their corners and placed in front of the window or at the table.

Two sofas facing each other means there will be two lines of 3 or 4 people looking at each other but the people sitting on the same sofa can not easily talk to each other. One sofa centered on the wall opposite the dining table with a coffee table in front of it, a small table at the end of the sofa (the end away from the window) and a nice comfy chair at a right angle to the sofa (facing the window). The bookcase can go on the wall behind chair closer to the door.

Those floor length curtains in front of the heater will be a problem in winter, they get too hot and they block the heat from the rest of the room.
I would shorten those to no longer than just under the windowsill. If you need the heavy curtains for privacy or to keep out the cold, they should also be shorter.
With darker furniture and beige walls, you could keep the sheer curtains a neutral color like beige. But brighten up the room drapes in a warm honey or amber color. If you find a print you like that has a soft gold with a little red, green, that would be pretty to add some color as long as the print doesn't overwhelm the small room making it look smaller. You could use solid color drapes and add color to the room with sofa pillows or a pretty rug in front of the sofa. And I am sure you have family pictures and knick-knacks that will be added to the walls too.

the room is to small for sofa+chairs & table, instead i would suggest you to bring in a small table that is not tall in height either and put down some cushions on the floor and make it more casual and room will look open as well..what do you say?

Start with one sofa first, you can always add if it works out for you, pillows on the floor are out for elderly ppl.last poster must be young? LOL, I assume you want to use the table to play cards or dine? maybe an L configuration with 2 sofa's might work?
