I have been thinking about putting some praying mantises in my gardens. They are all flower/perinnial gardens. Is it easier to try to find live ones, or do most people buy the egg cases? Any information would help. Thanks!

I could do with some here but, sadly, they don't supply either the live ones or the egg cases here in Scotland. They sound like a great idea though for keeping down the numbers of destructive insects in your gardens as long as you don't mind them also taking some of the 'goodies' too.

I never have used mantis because of our climate in the Pacific Northwest (cool and rainy - except this year). Lady bugs do well here. Bought them once and have had them and their offspring ever since. Maybe someone will be able to give you personal experiences.

I don't know much about them but I have egg cases everywhere!! I know they are good to have but they freak me out when I stumble across one! I've never seen them eating bugs but I have watched them lay their eggs. How do I know if the egg cases are hatched, incubating or dead??
