Interior Design Colour Scheme Help Needed?

I'm hoping someone can help me! I have a reasonably new house, and need to decorate my lounge/dinner, stairs and upstairs hallway. I have previously painted 2 accent walls, with the rest being magnolia. So now I need to decide a new colour scheme, which is where you (hopefully) come in. I have a few items that may dictate the colours I use. A yellow leather sofa, a brightly coloured painting, wooden flooring, plus the fact that the room is generally small and dark, with only a small window. I obviously need to try and make the room look as bright and big as possible...and I like the use of an accent colour. So...suggestions please?
