|
I'm so excited! I'm finally starting to get a few veggies every day from my veggie pots and plot. The other night I had friends over for dinner and had grilled yellow squash, patty pan squash, yellow bell pepper (delicious and sweet, oh my!!) okra, tomato and fresh herbs all from my yard! It was so fun to share it! Things turned around as I applied all the good tips my Stew friends have given me -- began weekly feeding alternating between fish emulsion, and Miracle Grow. And I noticed after the epsom salts a definate difference in the # and vigor of the flowers, esp on the tomatoes. So thanks to all of you! Here is a pic of what I've got from yesterday and today. Very happy!!
a few fresh veggies! ( photo / image / picture from daisybeans's Garden )

Hey DB, that looks great. I love fresh vegies and aren't they so much better when they come from your yard? Your arrangement looks nifty!!

Big congratulations and a well-done thrown in to boot!
You haver done a wonderful job with your veggies, but this is only the beginning...
I can just imagine how pleased your guests were with the fresh veg, and how proud you were (rightfully so, I might add).
The examples that you are displaying above are testiment to your ability.
...Isn't this exciting, Daisy?

Hello Daisy,
Well done! What a wonderful harvest you have there. That is one thing we don't have in our gardens...veggies. Maybe next year I'll set aside a section in one of our gardens for a few next year!
You have inspired me...

I joked with a friend yesterday that I'm just a "pot" farmer. Most of my plants are in big pots on the driveway. Some are in the ground. The tomatoes are delicious. I have learned that you have to pick the okra when it's tiny and eat it fast or it gets woody but boy, it's good! I'll plant more next year.
Thanks for sharing my excitement, everyone! It's been at least 15 years since I grew veggies so yeah, it's fun, especially learning new stuff. You all really keep me going and inspired.
PS -- Playtime, I'm not sure what else to do with Pattypans but grill 'em, steam 'em,or saute 'em.... When I grill them, I brush them with some lemon olive oil. My neighbor says she grates them, mixes with some flour, milk and egg to make a battery consistency and then fries them like fritters. I haven't tried it yet. Others have told me to fry them up with other veggies and onions... Maybe other people here will have some ideas.

I have eaten Patty pans raw in a salad, chopped and fried loose in olive oil or and/or butter, made patties out of rasped patty pans and cut into blocks and cooked in a stirfry.
There are a world of herbs and spices that you can use to flavour them. I like Indian ones best, personally.

Thanks so much for the tips on how to cook the patty pans, they look so lovely, but all home grown veg looks as good as it tastes, my tomato plants are way behind this year, I will be lucky to have tomatoes in november!

No worries, Playtime -- if you have tomatoes in November, you know we'll all be jealous!
If I find some other interesting ways to eat pattypans, I'll let you know.
