Hi

Apologies for the lack of technical info - I'm a complete gardening novice - but we have a plant in our garden with rubbery leaves which appears to have attracted a large number of common black flies.

The plant has become covered in a solid white substance that is hanging from the stems/leaves, and which (without wanting to sound ridiculous) I have seen move from side-to-side. It basically looks like fly larvae / chrysali / eggs are dominating the plant, and it seems constantly covered in flies and wasps. Consequently, the plant looks half-eaten in places.

Additionally the underside of the plant leaves appear to be lined with small eggs (approx width 1mm).

Could someone with some expertise in this area please take a look at the attached photos and let me know (i) What it is, and (ii) If I can get rid of it?

I realise that flies are natural and will move with the season, but it's thoroughly unpleasant being met by a large swarm every time I open the back door.

Many thanks
Matt
