|
I've found what I thought were weeds in my lawn that look exactly like my strawberry plants only much, much smaller. They have the triple, serrated leaves, runners, color, everything, but they're only an inch or two tall. Is there such a thing as a miniature wild strawberry or is this just a weed of coincidental appearance?
Thanks in advance!
jason

hi jason. i live in romania, temperate zone. so not sure we live in similar weathers.
i also have something that resembles a miniature strawberry. but it is definitely a WEED!
multiplies like hell, lots of runners...and the root sometimes goes really deep and i use a knife with a thick blade to pull it out.
the longer u wait the more you'll have to work on killing it...
but if you'd rather wait a little to see if you get strawberries on them... go ahead
Calin

Waldsteinia fragarioides or the Potentilla indica
I don't know of anyone that eats them. As CR said they really are pernicious. They spread rapidly and are difficult to remove once they have situated themselves.
There are folks here that have planted them to use as ground cover and were sorry. I hope that you can get it out of your lawn.

I have them growing all over my lawn. I don't notice them at all until I mow, but then I'm on my hands and knees eating them! They are small and you need a lot of them, but they are very, very sweet.

Thanks for all the responses! I never noticed them in previous years so I've never seen any actual fruit or flowers. Next year, no fruit means I won't encourage their survival.
Thanks again!
