I got a stalk of this from an Aunt... who said she got it from her Aunt years ago from Opelousas Louisiana. We figured out it was a Ginger. Is this correct? Any more info on it?
It's finally bloomed. The first photo is of the "cone" the flowers bloom from. Very interesting. I never saw anything like that before.

That is gorgeous...check out Hedychium coronarium
I think that is yours.
Anytime you have a piece you don't know what to do with I will gladly give it a good home

Simply beautiful. And it does resemble an orchid. Hope you find out exactly what it is.

Ahhh a butterfly ginger!! You can see how it got its common name can't you as it does look like a white butterfly.

yes! That's it. I actually remembered to stop and smell the flowers yesterday. Wonderful fragrance! Reminded me of Gardenia.
Here it is with 3 flowers open.
And Toni... If I knew how to mail you some... I'd surely do it! It grows/spreads really fast! Just planted it in March and I'm going to have to find another huge tub or something to transplant it.
