My wife took a picture of a butterfly at the Mn zoo and hasn't been able to find out what kind it is. Can anyone ID it for me? Any help would be appreciated.

I'm not at all sure of this ID but it may be a White Peacock butterfly. They come in a variety of creams and browns.
Maybe someone from around your area will be able to give a more positive ID.

Wing shape is wrong for a Peacock tho.
Was the butterfly on display in an enclosed habitat? Or was it flying around free outside?

Yes the wing shape was the problem I was having in IDing this butterfly. However, I'm sure somebody will be able to give the right name for it soon.

The wingshape I believe is called Angelwing...the Question Mark and Comma butterflies have that shape but I can't find this one under the Subgenus Polygonia.

I've looked through all my books and still can't find one like the photograph. Maybe it's an exotic????

That's what I was thinking and why I asked if it was in an enclosed habitat or not. I have a book of butterflies from all around the world but this one is just not there either.
If it was in a habitat, Rugrat, you might need to contact the zoo for an ID. But I will keep looking thru what I have.

I'm so glad you got an ID for your butterfly rugrat. It certainly is a beauty.
