Hello. I'm a graphic designer and I'm working on a personal project.
I realize that there is every probability that this is a totally made-up fictitious butterfly, especially after exhausting myself on Google all day, but if anyone has any clues what it might be or might have been intended to be, I'd be very grateful.
Thanks in advance,
TJ

That may indeed be someone's fantasy but if you look at the the Urania ripheus moth or perhaps even the Uranus sloanus, it is easy to see that this moth may have been the inspiration.
These exotic moths have "swallowtails" but as I said, perhaps they inspired the painting.
I have never seen a moth or butterfly like what is featured in the image that you posted, but it is a very nice bit of artwork.
Success in your search.

I agree with Sjoerd that it's probably from someones imagination as I can't find a butterfly that looks like the one you've posted anywhere. However it is rather pretty isn't it?
