|
I have a natural pond in which I have planted 3 waterlilies. Two were rather small when planted, the third was large and flowering. A week later when I went to check on the health of these transplants I discovered the leaves and flowers had been eaten back to the roots. I know there are catfish in the pond, and I have seen ducks on occasion. Would either of these be the culprit? What else would devour a water lily? I would be most appreciative of any insights on this topic.

I don't know about catfish, but I do know that the raccoons ate "everything" in my pond. It's not a natural one like yours just a cement pond approximately 6x14 feet in an urban area.

Thank you for the quick response, Jewell. I don't recall seeing footprints in the new soil to indicate racoon thieves, but it's certainly a possibility!!
