Does anyone know what this plant is? The green pods/casings have lots of small brown seeds inside. Thanks, any advice is appreciated!

I believe that these are Iris seed pods.

Hmmmm! I've never grown iris from seeds. Do you think it's hard to do? How long does it take? I usually just thin out the corms and replant the extra. dooley

Gosh Dooley, I don't know if it's difficult or not. I use those seed pods with stem for "dry arrangements" at home and along with the dead leaves for the paths in the lotties. None have ever popped-up in the paths though. The Crocosmia lucifers have though. I'm like you, I just lop off a bit of the root ball and plant that where I want the next stand to be. That has worked every time.

Definitely Iris seed pods. It takes them a long time to get large enough to bloom.
