I just took this photo of what appears to be a black bear print down on our beach. I took off my flip flop to compare, and it's much bigger and deeper than any print my Newfoundland dog could create.
The print right next to my flip flop appears to be two paw prints together and you can really see the size of the claws, although it appears to be a small bear. This is the second time in a week that I've seen these on the beach! Bring on the porridge!!!

How exciting - well at least to me anyway. I'd be thrilled to see the owner of those tracks if you ever get the chance to take a piccie of the bear. Just as long as you stay well away from it and it's safe that is.

Oh wow! Black Bears are something I'd like to see ... from a distance! My neighbor saw one out in his field last fall so I've been watching. We have 3 Apple trees in the backyard and I think bears like apples (don't they??)

We had bear in New London too where I used to live...be careful and stay away. That is one animal I do not care to see in person...I always worried about my pets and I could hear wolf howling when I was training my puppy in the middle of the night...believe me if I would of seen one I would of ran through the door..Hopefully I would of remembered the puppy...

Oh how cool  Ive seen black bears in person (I stayed inside the car though) at the Chapleau (Ontario) city dump. They were just sitting off to the side looking like giant teddy bears waiting for people to finish dumping their trash and leave. Lol

I do think twice now when I let the dogs out at night. It's not normal for them to be coming so close to humans at this time of year. In the spring, yes, as they're hungry when they wake up from hibernation. We've had wolves, coyotes and foxes around this summer as well. All think it's because of the excess of wild turkeys in our area. Lots to look out for with a new puppy in our house.
A good friend of mine who lives in northern Wisconsin spent the winter out ice skating on the pond in back of her place, and found out in spring that a black bear was hibernating right at the pond's edge in a burrow he had dug. Hopefully our resident bear will burrow elsewhere this winter!

Scary, KL. We've seen bear prints on the wooded road in back of our home, but in the 10 years I've lived in NC, I've never seen a bear and I'd like to keep it that way. Take care.
