It's always very hard to ID a butterfly that has its wings closed. The underwings are so different from the uppper wings. Do you have another picture of it with its wings open by any chance?

Eileen is right. The butterfly could be and probably is, a totally different set of colors when viewed from the top with the wings spread.

You might contact a local university and ask if they have an Entomology department and specifically an Lepidopterist, one who studies butterflies. You could send them your photo for a definite ID.

It is very hard at times to get butterflies or moths with both open and closed wings. Many, as soon as they land, close the wings, I've tried many times to get both shots. You did well to get this shot, nice picture.
