Hello,

I'm hoping someone can help me. I have a very old (20+ years) plant that I've never known what it was. It has never bloomed (considering it has with stood children, pets, moving and low light for the past 11 years) but has grown to well over 2 to 3 feet tall. It has branched a couple of times and has alot of leaves. There are small thorns at the base of the leaves or where the leaves were. For the last 15 years or so it has shared a pot with a Sansevieria (Snake plant) and Schlumbergera (Christmas Cactus) I've included a couple of pictures to help.

Thank you for ANY help,
Wanda

Leaves are round when new and oval as they get older ( photo / image / picture from wandascraprack's Garden )

It reminds me of http://cactiguide.com/cactus/?genus=Acanthocereus&species=tetragonus
or another of the Acanthocereus
Acanthocereus tetragonus 'Fairy Castles' (Barbed-wire Cactus, Chaco)

But I am not really into cacti so I don't know all the variations

It could be that it isn't blooming because it isn't getting enough sun, it is a night bloomer so you may be missing a rare blooms when it does have one.

It's an African Milkweed. I've had one for over 25 years.

Thank you so much. That is exactly what it is. I looked it up and that was exactly what I have. You've had yours for a long while. Thank you again.

It's one of my favorite plants... like part of the family!
And mine has never bloomed either.

Have you been paying a lot of attention to it in the evening? If it is a night bloomer then blooms should probably show up in the evening.

It's been either in the living area or near the living area for the whole time I've had it. I've never seen a bloom or anything that looks like it might have been a bloom. But I will keep an eye on it to make sure. Thanks.
