Can outdoor dracaena spikes be potted up?

I have several dracaena spikes that were grown in the flower pots at the front entrance to our building. Can these be dug up and grown indoors and then placed outside next spring?

It seems a shame to let them die over the winter but if they will not survive indoors, I can spend my energy doing other things.

I dig mine up and bring them inside each winter. It is very important not to over water them!

 

I wish I had more room to do that...my spikes were so nice and large before the cold weather...what a waste but I like them in my containers.

 

Sherry, I keep all the foliage tied together all winter. In the spring when I untie them they have nice new growth in the middle. It saves space.

 

I also dig mine up and bring them in each year as the cold comes!

 

Same here, i bring mine in as well and they do great each year.

I dug the three spikes up today and was totally amazed at the root system on two of them. They were huge! I had to cut the roots back just to get them out of the pots. They are now potted up and I will see how they do over the winter.

 

I have a neighbor that still has some in the front of her house in pots. They are good size but I think she is just leaving them there because she doesn't want an empty pot...we have had a lot of frost and cold and now the snow will be here later today. They do look nice in the pots....too bad she doesn't decorate them for Christmas.

 

I have successfully overwinter them in the garage. It was by accident, we just didn't clean out the pots. It is barely heated and they didn't get any water all winter. So I am sure they will be happier with a little more care.
