any tips on how to make a birdhouse?

when it rains here in our area, birds would always come to our house and rest on our window sills. i would like to make a birdhouse so the birds would have a place to stay when they want to.

i have seen how-to's on making birdhouses but they're mostly made of cardboard. i was hoping to make one out of wood so it won't get soaked when it rains.

I would find a hobby/craft store in your area, Hobby Lobby, Michaels or JoAnn's, etc. and buy a premade wood one that you can paint and hang out side.
Or check out thrift stores, there are almost always birdhouses available either already painted or unpainted that someone decided they didn't want any longer.

If you really want to make one, do some research on what kind of birds you have in your yard and what kind of birdhouse they would use. Some will not use birdhouses at all.
This website has free build your own plans for different kinds of birds....
