 How do you beat the gardening winter blues?

Well winter is here I started last year bringing things indoors and painting them, Like my flower pots and my little round birdbath, and a couple of garden chairs I put out last year,I sawed a hole in each chair and put flower pots in them, My birdbath I want to look like a big sun flower inside of it, when I get done painting it, Sounds crazy huh, But if I can do it right that's what I'm hoping for.And last Jan. I started my flower seeds everywhere in the house as you all know from the pics.My Hubby bought me one of those Cricuts to make cards and all kinds of things it cuts out, I love it.That's about all I do in winter well you know besides the house work and all that good stuff.It's going to be along winter.  Those little things I bring in and paint ,they go back in my flower room I'm fixing to but no worry Ill get all my little seeds back there to , well maybe some of them, And the rest of them anywhere I can find to put them.You know how that goes.

This winter I will be helping my daughter with all the plans for her upcoming wedding on Oct 2, 2010. The wedding & reception will be held at the Cator Woolford Gardens in Atlanta, GA. (My daughter picked the location, she wanted an outdoor wedding) Of course I was thrilled, it is a lovely garden. Yes, there is a back-up plan...there is an atrium room which seats 150 in case of rain.
I use the winter months to catch up on inside projects,and plan for next year's garden.

sew
clean out drawers
enjoy shopping for friends and family.
Ponder my next move ......
Usually have family fun for christmas. Lots of photos food an Laughter.(Love)
Oh.....ride my 4 wheeler in the snow drifts..LOL

Well, this will be my first winter of retirement so I don't know for sure what I will be doing. My two favorite sports will be in their offseasons - NASCAR and tennis. So I will really be in withdrawal mode and at loose ends.
Probably will give my apartment a thorough cleaning and updating so it is more craft friendly. So that means converting the master bedroom into a craft room. And catching up on all the "tuit" projects that I have pending.

Whew!!!! there is no winter in this part of the world  but I don't mind experiencing it once for one whole season if I have the opportunity..... provided there is snow!!!

Add a scarf and gloves and maybe a person could get sort of comfortable. But I can't imagine living anywhere else.

This year I plan to finish projects that were ignored when I was outdoors. 1)finish knitting a bag I started last winter. 2) Put family pix in a book, the ones I took when the kids were yay high (little), 3) Put up a bird feeder, the one I wanted to put up last year and the year before. 4) Tend the plants I plan to overwinter in my little greenhouse, hopefully.
Where do I start?

I putz out in my garden shed which we keep heated. I overwinter a few things, mostly geraniums, and it's great to be out there when it's snowing outside. I also recently took up quilting and am learning to sew. Good winter pastime here in Wisconsin!

Living in Louisiana it's easy to keep busy during our very mild winters, which are a blessing.. There's always leaves to rake and flower beds to mulch. I also start preparing for new beds by putting down thick layers of cardboard and then piling leaves, grass clippings, wood ash, and whatever else I can acquire on top of the cardboard. I start seeds, take care of the plants in the plant shelter, always plenty to do.

We don't get the extreme weather in Ca and that's why everyone wants to live here. Especially after watching the Rose Bowl game and the camera pulls back, showing the San Gabriel Mountains in the distance and how beautiful New Years day is in CA. Yeah, we have the good weather and can pretty much garden all year long. If you have a native garden like I do, winter is actually the time to put your plants in and I have several waiting for me to get them out of the pots and into the ground. I continue doing my Nordic walking, going to the gym, trail work in the Sespe with the Forest Service and working (I do have a job). We do get rain and snow but it depends on the elevation and when it gets cold ( but nothing like what the rest of you experience), I crank up the heat on my electric blanket! But don't envy me for our great weather, it's crowded here and there's too many people.
