I know this is an old one.

But i'm trying to stop my squirrals from eating all the bird seeds and nuts.

I have hung the feeder by thin wire in the hope they cant climb down it.

Spotted my nemesis yesterday red ears. (he has red ears with white points)

hanging upside down with his hind legs hanging from the branch and his front legs pulling the wire and the feeder up. He then anaged to tip it upside down to get all the nuts out.

I remember seeing a uk tv show that had how smart they are. just wondered if anyone could reccomend a good feeder to outsmart them

I have given up on finding a real squirrel proof feeder and changed what I feed the birds. I have been feeding Safflower seeds this year exclusively. Most birds like it, with the exception of the grackles and some other blackbirds and the squirrels won't touch it.

Good tip thanks I will look for some.

Year putting peanuts in is kind of too tempting Smile

Its fun though seeing how many they can stuff in their mouth at one time

Here a few 'squirrel proof' bird feeders that are available for you to have a look at. Personally I don't find these cage feeders to be of much use as squirrels can often squeeze through the bars of them quite easily.

Here's the latest squirrel proof feeder that has been designed and appears to be exactly the right thing to keep squirrels at bay.

Is your feeder 10+ feet away from something the squirrels could climb and jump from?

You should probably move it further away--the squirrels can jump from a tree or something less than ten feet away.
