My idea of a relaxing day is to go to garage sales. I like to look for things to make into garden ornaments.
I never have Fridays off, so I took a personal day tomorrow to go. I also look for things I need around the house and for work shirts. Tomorrow I will be looking for glass pieces for garden totems, bowling balls for globes and for stands to put them on. What do y'all look for at garage sales. =^..^=

Oh you have GOT to show us what you buy!!!!  I can hardly wait to see what you pick up. I haven't been to a car boot sale for ages but I feel the urge to go now after reading your post.

My lovely husband stops at yard sales and is always bringing home something interesting. He brings home cheap glass lamps and we yank the guts out, turn them upside down and fill them with hypertufa. Some we slide leaves in the mold for a nice leaf print. Others we embellish with glass.
 He buys every cowbell he sees and I pry them from his hands and put them on rawhide with handmade beads (he's a beadmaker)
I hope you have a lot of exciting finds today.

OK Bethie, after they are filled with hypertufa, do you break the lamp to get it off, I guess you would have to huh? Will you give us your recipe for the hypertufa mixture, pretty please with a cherry on top? Those are wonderful, I can just see them in my yard right now. Keep up the good work.

Oh, I got so excited by Bethies' garden art I forgot about the garage sales. The first one I went to had some really nice glass, kinda on the pricey side. I do not like to pay over $1 for a piece for a totem, cause it will add up. If it is really nice, or unusual I will pay a little more. For the most part the GS's were a bust today. I did get 3 succulents(sp) and another little plant at one, and a few good pieces of glass. The Goodwill Store had some really pretty amber colored sherbert glasses, 99 cents each. Then on the way home I stopped by a freeshop place, the only one I know of around here. Found some glass and 3 bowling balls there, only took 2 of the BB's, didn't want to be greedy. It was mostly just nice to have a do nothing morning. This afternoon I am going to go help decorate for VBS at our church.

I will happily give you my recipe and step by step instructions to get you started . You can make some simple plaques or stepping stones in a round cake pan too.
No painting skill required. The leaf is painted at the last minute and the wet crete laid on it. This "infuses" the color on the leaf. I'll write this all out tomorrow and post it. I'm supposed to be working on a cat memorial stone so I've got to get busy. Always happy to help a fellow gardener create.

Oh fantastic!!! I can't wait to try the recipe and get started!!!!! I really like those pavers.
Sharon could you possibly take a piccie of one of the bowling balls before you start to decorate it please? Just so that I know what to look for. I'm just not sure if you mean carpet bowls or ten-pin bowls. Thanks.

Oh ,Bethie I want to know all about how you make them .I can't wait to see what goes into all this .As I said before I never heard of hypertufa .What do you make it out of ? I love that multi colored one .It is just so lovely .I am going to try this if it kills me.

Thanks Bethie. Just to let you see what carpet bowls are like Sharon here are a couple of piccies:
and they all fit in a holdall like this:
They are approx 1/4 the size of ten-pin bowls I think.

You could decorate those also if they are firm enough. You can even use small hard plastic base ball or wiffle balls. They look really good with mosaic or flat backed marbles. With the marbles use silicone, the mosaic use grout. If you google bowling balls you will find all kind of neat things to do with them.
