One of the ways is to hold down ALT and (USING THE KEYPAD, not the numbers across the top) type 0176
When you let up on the ALT there it is.....

Thanks Toni...I knew it was some numbers and ALT or CTRL or something!!! With all the cold weather coming, I'm sure I will be using it frequently...

Don't know why they couldn't just put it on a
key! Like CTRL 'something'! I will make a note of all of these. Thanks to everyone for their help.

It seems that there are literally thousands of “Alt.” shortcuts to a wide verity of symbols, and all the letters and numbers. I use MS Word for virtually everything that I type. Then I copy and paste to E Mails or postings. Under the “Insert” Tab, far to the right there is a “Symbol” button that displays most of the symbols, and if you play around some with it you can find out what “Alt” shortcut produces what symbol. If you use some of them regularly, as I do, I have made a list that is handy to me when I type that I use to get the symbol I need. The following are 1 through 10 “Alt” shortcuts ☺☻♥ ♦ ♣ ♠ • ◘ ○ ◙. And, 100 through 110 - d e f g h I j k l m and the following are 1000 through 1010 - ϩ Ϫ ϫ Ϭ ϭ Ϯ ϯ ϰ ϱ. And so on. I’m not sure, but I think there may be some differences between different word processors.

Now it is all coming back to me! Haven't worked in years, so I obviously stopped using the short cuts. But I do remember all the signs and smilie faces. Thanks for jogging my poor crippled old mind!!

Gaylyn, I'm am so glad you started this topic. When I worked in the library I knew all those keyboard shortcuts but if you don't use it you loose it! Thanks to all for jogging my memory! I found a website that has a chart of all the alt characters.
