Try a color and if your wife doesn't like it, paint over it. After all paint is the least expensive thing to change. I really think bold colors make a room look inviting and warm. Go to a paint department and get lots of samples. I always get about 10 each of the colors that I am contemplating. Then I tape them together and affix to the wall and stand back a distance. Leave them up a day or so and let the colors 'grow' on you...or not! Keep us posted, OK?

thanks for the advice. i went to home depot to get those samples but since i'm considering so many colors, i didn't want to walk out of the store with a giant stack and have the employees yell at me. so i got 2 today and will probably go to a different one on the way home from work tomorrow to grab 2 more colors. :p

You should consider painting all of yours the same since it is open.

I like the deep colors, but would still paint the rest of the room. Right now it's "builder's beige" and adding just a slightly warmer tone will really make a huge impact.
