Amusing little animals aren't they - except when they chew the bird feeders to bits as they've done here.

They are very cute. A couple of ours lost half their tails this winter. The end turned black and the fur fell off. We wondered if they got too cold in the snowy weather. Anyone else seen anything like this. Other than that they seem healthy and fit.

Cute...I love to watch them too. Looks like the one was taking a swan dive.

The little stinkers! They are cute..
I am watching my resident squirrels this morning too, one has been up in the feeder, then he flies off when I scold him.

I think it might be frostbite. I saw one again today. He seems fit and chipper, but the end of his tail is black, it almost looks charred, and it's missing all the hair. Frostbite can turn flesh black so I tend to think it might be that.

Squirrels belong to my backyard like all my plants, all the garden accents, all the birds. I love watching them, especially when they come around to eat or what is even more fun to watch, when they come around teasing my son's dog, when we have her for a few days here with us. There is mostly one squirrel sitting on the fence on the north side and one squirrel is sitting on the fence on the south side of the yard and the dog goes crazy over not knowing which one to chase first.
The other day the dog was laying in the sun, a squirrel came down from the tree on the ground waving it's tail moving slowly toward the dog but staying in a safe distance to the tree. Once the dog noticed the squirrel and jumped up the squirrel made a few jumps back and was up the tree again. Now folks, try to imagine what the dog was looking and acting like...

I love Squirrels, we've got one living just outside our house, we've named him Terrance, he's such a little personality. We've managed to train him to come up to one of the balconies for monkey nuts.
I'm involved in biodiversity lots this year, specifically encouraging wildlife back into your garden so it's great to see these pics here. If you're looking for more ideas about what to do, have a look at this page http://www.rhs.org.uk/Biodiversity
