This is the 2nd tree in my yard had this disease. 1st tree just died during a winter snow storm:(( This 2nd tree started to have the same disease last spring. It grows beautiful red flowers in April first, then comes with leaves. I believe 30% bark are damaged and I have no clue what tree is it. Could anyone help, please?

Are you asking about the grey lichen growing on the tree? I never thought that could actually kill trees.

Many of my trees have the same grey lichen and they haven't died - they don't even look unhealthy. Maybe there's some other reason why your trees are dying. Could you post a photograph of the whole tree for us please so that we can help you ID it and, maybe, assist you in working out what is wrong with it?

Lichens do not feed off the tree or poison it so it can just be left alone with no danger to the tree.

Thank you and I uploaded more photos. I did think lichens were the root cause, because the 1st died tree also had lichens, and it seemed they spread to the 2nd tree last year. I am so happy they are not harmful. If lichens are not the root cause, what else might be the problem? The tree will have flowers in the next few weeks. The leaves last year was not very healthy, but they seemed to be strong enough to stay.

Look close for tiny hole in the bark and under lying wood. Borers are a big killer of trees. They kill a tree slowly, feeding on the core of the tree, I have lost all my Locust trees to them, GEEEERRRRRRR, I now use a systemic borer killer from Bayer, Works AWESOME. My aspen are going to make it.
