I did the lettuce from seeds.....now some are still tiny shoots and a couple are an inch tall....how long before I can pick them?

Also how much water should I give them? I put a lot of water today and the inch tall ones seem to droop a little bit...is that a bad sign?

    hello,
your lettuce should get a good watering once a week in the summer months. we had a cold snap and mine sat for 3 weeks without growing then boom they were 8 inches tall.I'd let it get at least 8 inches tall so you have more to eat. The sooner you pick the more tender it is. I had a lettuce that I was cutting on and I left a few rows to grow more and it actually grew heads of lettuce, crazy!! I like the more leafy unstructered kind but that turned out good. So I guess I'm saying I'd let a couple grow to see what happens. I hope this helps..Also wait and check tom. and see if it is still wilty looking. As long as the water wasn't pooling and sitting there you should be okay.
