I am so happy you all have enjoyed my "big bird", he had the most piercing eyes he was exciting to observe up close. Thanks for all the compliments on my photography, I really enjoy my camera.

Gail I was just showing this guy to one of my co-workers and she asked how large he was?

Daisy I am glad you asked. Since I was looking through the zoom I was not sure so I went to the Cornell website and found out some interesting facts. After reading the information I think "Big Bird" was a female. Female red-tails are 30% larger than males. Females weigh more and females have thicker feet and thighs and we could certainly see those feet & thighs. They range from 18-26" in length and their wingspan is 45-52". I was suprised to learn they only weigh about 3 lbs under all those feathers. Mr. Green

Thanks Gail. I have looked at these pics many times. I am just so enthralled with her looks. The one where she is just about to take off and her feathers all all tousled is catching my attention today. She is so beautiful.
