good thinking calinromania! but the new growth is from the root of the original plant, not a new or separate plant.

the one good thing about many annuals is that many of them reseed themselves, come spring!

i agree with what toni posted..."I would think that any of the plants mentioned by others will do just fine as long as they get enough sunlight and kept at a temp comparable with there hardiness zone restrictions."
