Everything is back to normal and I'm having NO problems getting into the forums now.  In fact things seem to have speeded up - great!! Still haven't a clue what was wrong though.
Nice to be back to normal again.

It would be awful if you could not access the site as quickly as you can now.'
BTW do you like the new 'New Topic' and 'Post Reply' buttons?
